From serious injuries to financial problems, many of the hardships that workers face following an on the job accident are immediately evident. It is crucial to bear in mind that there are other potential problems which may arise in the wake of a work-related accident, some of which may be more difficult to detect. For example, some workers who have been through a traumatic accident may struggle with various mental challenges, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and other difficulties. As with other workplace accident consequences, focusing on recovery is essential.

Not only can these mental challenges make it hard for an injured worker to move forward in their career, but some may be unable to return to their previous line of work. For example, someone who has mental trauma after a job-related traffic accident may have to find a new field because they are no longer able to get behind the wheel to perform their job duties. Or, someone may struggle to return to work because they have become very depressed. Fortunately, there may be some options on the table for workers who are struggling with these hardships, such as applying for workers’ comp benefits.

Workers’ compensation benefits have helped many injured workers find a fresh start and it is imperative for injured workers to recognize all of the resources that may be available following an incident. From help with financial challenges (which can also cause mental issues) to assistance with training for a new line of work, there are many different ways in which workers’ comp can be helpful.
